Would it...

...be easier if I fit neatly into a recognizable category?

Sure, but it would also make you equally boring.

Plus, I'm doubtful you'd have the same outlook regarding life.
Sometimes I think the difficulty is where we (hopefully) learn and grow to be a better person. And you ARE a better person than the one's who never struggled I think.
The struggle may never end, but you will change from it.

Existentially speaking you are alive!

Thanks for your insights, Bear.

Last night I really needed to ask the question. This morning it seems trite, ill-defined and above all irrelevant.

I dunno, is there a recognizable category you've got your eye on?

Bigg: Good question. At the moment breakfast cereals. But it will likely change to salty snacks by around noon.

Damn it, Bear, you replied exactly how I would have. I guess that goes to show that Bear and I grew up together since we sometimes think alike. But yeah, Flip, fitting into one category will make it easy to peg you as something specific... and once that happens, there's nothing to discover.

Your struggles always change you in one way or another... hopefully those changes will be positive.

Nope... not at all. Then you would be concerned if you REALLY fit that category and now you fit into it...

Unless you look at life that we are each our own category... then it makes it easy...

what is a category but someone else's way of stretching or chopping reality to fit his own preconceptions?

There is a reason that Theseus killed Procrustes for doing it to his guests...

No, we are all the "live material" from which someone with an eye to abstraction construct their categories.

And as soon as we give in to them, they win and WE die.

Hang in there.

I dunno, I'm busy trying to peel all the labels off at the moment.

I think when you categorize something, you leave it up for scrutiny and therefore complicate it somehow.

Cal, I agree with you, I guess I meant, if Flip were in some more common "cookie-cutter straight laced" category, other than being so unique...I would find that boring (as it doesn't make him more interesting!) The other's remarks towards categories say it much better than I really.
